Exemptions

Work Permits and Leave to Remain State Schools in England - Deferred Payments

Whilst applications for teachers for State maintained schools in England are not exempt from the charge, it has been agreed that rather than charge them directly, Work Permits (UK) will recover the cost of the charges periodically from the Department for Education and Skills (DfES). This arrangement will be reviewed on a regular basis.

Under European Law, we are obliged to exempt prospective employers of overseas nationals from countries who have signed and ratified the Council of Europe Charter or the European Social Charter (revised).

Therefore, employers making work permit applications to employ nationals of the Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Estonia, Lithuania, Romania, Slovenia, Poland, Turkey, Cyprus, Malta, Latvia and Moldova will be exempt from the charge.

Any application, which falls outside the Deferred or Exempt category, must be accompanied by a valid payment.

Failure to do so will result in a delay in the consideration of the work permit application.
